Rivers and lakes breed many species of fly that hatch either at the water surface or by crawling ashore, flies that after mating, must return to the water to lay their eggs, flies such as the sedges and upwinged flies. In this volume we look at some of the flies that you may see on the water and Malcolm Greenhalgh dresses a series of quite simple dry flies – some old and some new – that can be used to match these flies.
